Patience is a virtue!

My first day of traveling was definitely an adventure. My family and I left for the airport at 6 am this morning and flew into Ohare Airport in Chicago for our connecting flight then to Rome from there. We flew American Airlines, and naturally, I couldn't fall asleep at all haha 8 straight hours of shutting my eyes trying to fall asleep only to wake up and play another game of angry birds, watch a movie, or do a crossword puzzle. To top that off, a baby about 8-10 months was two rows in front of me...joy.
However, the real adventure began when we landed in Rome. Trying to decipher guides and maps as to where our luggage will go, where the train is, when the train leaves, and what platform to go to could possibly be one of the most difficult things I have ever done. Definitely debatable. Airports and train stations in Europe are not as accommodating as they are in the US so you better know what your doing or you will get lost or taken advantage off. One thing I have learned so far is try and look like you know what you are doing haha otherwise, your a prime target as a tourist.
Anyways after what seemed like hours of lugging suitcases up and down steps, down never ending platforms, and stuffing them into spaces too small for them to fit, we finally made it to Firenze. No matter how crazy the day had been, any struggle I had faced became insignificant the moment I laid my eyes on the beautiful Ponte Vecchio. It is absolutely gorgeous. My family and I ate dinner at Trattoria Ponte Vecchio which was delicious (pictures to come) and then my dad and I strolled around taking pictures and listening to the different bands playing in the streets. No matter how tired I am from traveling all day, I am so excited to finally be here :)

The Beginning!

Ponte Vecchio
Well the time has finally come! I’m off to Europe bright and early in the morning! Packing for my trip has already worn me out, but I’m proud to say I made it under the 50 lb limit (ha) and even have extra room. I’m definitely going to miss the states, my friends, and my family, but Florence is finally calling! It’s not like I’ve been waiting for this for 8 months or anything :) however, hurricane Irene better simmer down….
A little background information: Upon my arrival, I will begin my study abroad program through UCEAP where I will be taking classes at the Language and Culture Institute in Firenze for 15 weeks. I will be taking Italian classes and one class on “Florence in Italian and International Cinema,” pretty cool huh? I hope to explore everything the small city of Firenze has to offer, as well as travel throughout Italy to Venice, Rome, Pompeii, Milan, Cinque Terre, the Amalfi Coast, and where ever else my travels take me!
I plan to document my travels for myself, as well as my readers (whoever you may be) with the intent of capturing my experiences and sharing them for those who care to read them. May my travels bring the unexpected, brilliant, and inexplicable memories I've been waiting for!
Happy Reading!
